Sometimes I think that five minutes of weeding does more for my self esteem than four hours of hard slog in the garden. Actually there was no way I could do more than five minutes gardening today. My hayfever is in full swing and despite the fact we are covered by not very promising gray clouds and there is no wind – the pollen in the air has to be breathed in to be believed. Even so I perservered and have weeded a small section and laid newspaper down on the path beside it with an over lay of shredded paper from the office. I tried the shredded paper as a weed supressent in the vegie garden last year and it works a treat. Sure it may not look particularly nice to the eye – unlike gravel or wood chips – but it does surpress the weeds and even better – 0nce it has been dampened it doesn’t blow away.

Rambling Rector – in full bloom
I have also whipped through the housework, dropped a load of clothes at a charity shop while dropping kids off at school, made two slices (one of which should now be set enough for me to enjoy for morning tea), hung out one load of washing and have another in the machine and am now off to the sewing room to finish this housewarming present. Photos as soon as I’m finished as I am rather pleased with how it has turned out.
Also on the agenda today, is to make a bag out of a skirt I picked up at the op shop the other day for a friend of Elise’s. It’s her birthday on Saturday and I’m hoping this bag will appeal to her fashion sense. By the way have you noticed how social teenagers are these days? Honestly Elise has a better social life than I do she always seems to be on the phone or internet chatting to her friends or they are visiting our house. I don’t mind – they are all nice kids and I would rather that they be here than wandering the streets.

Lawerence Johnson – He flowers at the same time as Rambling Rector and is a sight to behold.
